UPDATE: 6-18-08
With the economy not so great and gas prices continuing to soar, I really didn't expect to
Raise quite as much as we did last year, but thankfully I was proved wrong again.
People have continued to donate and we raised $2,122.80 to date.
This brings the total raised over the past five years to more than $7,000 and Alex's
Lemonade Stand Foundation has raised more than $19 million!!!!!!
Don't ever let anyone tell you, you cant make a difference!!!
Together we are making a difference & bringing hope to children
Everywhere! Alex started a single lemonade stand to help her doctors
and it has grown into a world wide phenomenon! Thank you for
continuing to support this ALSF & keep saving those tabs and cans.
In 2007, almost $6,000 was raised for our local Ronald
McDonald
House by recycling of cans and tabs. Please remember those still fighting
& those families who are grieving In your prayers.
Blessings to all,
The Powell family

UPDATE: 2-13-08
Sorry it's been so long since I updated.
Josh saw his oncologist last month for his yearly checkup.
One of the labs of his blood work came back a little
Elevated. We waited a couple of weeks and then
Repeated the labs. I waited to post until we had
The results. They are back down to normal now.
Although his doctor wasn't alarmed, as a parent,
The fear near fades. There is so many complications
That can cause problems later in his life.
Another note of good news. For years, Josh has
Wrestled with what to do for his dream. During treatment,
He thought about a trip but wanted to wait till he felt
Like traveling. After treatment, he decided that wasn't
What he wanted. He has gone back and forth
On things but he finally made up his mind & The
Dream Connection provided him with a wonderful
Shopping spree. He got a big LCD screen tv,
An xbox, games and a gift card to Best Buy.
It was an awesome experience!! He has been through
So much, God has blessed him w/ good health.
I look at this "dream" as reward for: taking his medicine,
Tolerating many shots, the nausea caused by chemo, the pain
From antibodies, missing school, missing his friends,
For NOT quitting & keeping up the FIGHT. It was great to
see him rewarded for missing almost 2 years of his
childhood. Thank you Dream Connection & thank you
to their volunteers and donors who make it possible to
Fulfill the many dreams of children stricken by life
Threatening illnesses.
I will try to load some pictures this weekend.
Guitar Hero is awesome!!
Thanks for checking in & keeping Josh in your prayers,
God bless you all,
The Powell family

UPDATE: 6-6-07
Sorry it's been so long since I've updated.
We had a fire at our house on February 7th.
We got out safely thanks to our smoke detectors -
Please check yours!! But smoke can really do
A lot more damage than I ever realized. We just
Recently got to move back in, just in time for the
End of the school year, which we celebrated with
A trip to the beach. We had a very relaxing time
& I think we all did a pretty good job of not
Thinking about all the boxes that still needed
To be unpacked when we returned. I'll post
Some pictures of our trip soon. Also, pictures
Of Josh in his newly painted room.
This upcoming weekend, June 9th, is the
National Alex's Lemonade Stand Days.
Josh and Brittany will be hosting their 5th
Annual Lemonade Stand to raise money for
Childhood cancer research. We will be at
The Ingles on Oak Ridge Highway from
9 - 5. If you're in the area, stop by and
Say "hi".

UPDATE: 12-13-06
quick update -
It is with great JOY that I report that Josh's scans are normal, clean & he remains cancer FREE!!!
His cancer was so stubborn & slow to retreat, it seemed to take forever to reach remission.
It is nothing short of a miracle that he remains cancer free today. I thank each and everyone
of you for bowing your heads on his behalf. God is gracious and He has answered the
many prayers sent up for Josh.
Please remember our friend, Lindsey who will be having surgery on Monday, Dec. 12.
May your heart and home be filled with peace and joy this season of miracles and throughout the New Year,
The Powell family

UPDATE: 11-22-06
It's hard to believe that this time 5 years ago, Josh was recovering from
his 2nd surgery & we were preparing (shaking in our boots) for his stem
cell transplant. As we pause this Thanksgiving, to reflect on things we are
grateful for, we are blessed beyond words that God has restored Josh's
health and sent so many of you warriors to pray for him. God's love
Is abundant and we are so very blessed to be surrounded by His
Steadfast love.
Please continue to pray for God's continued blessings. Josh will have
his yearly scans on December 4 & 5th & we will find out the results on
the 7th. The last time we saw his oncologist, he mentioned that if these
scans are clean, there would be no further scans. Nothing would please
Josh more than to not have to drink that YUCKY tasting contrast again!
Wishing you and your family many, many blessing. Also, please
continue pray for those needing God's healing touch; little Lindsey
Will have surgery on Dec 12th.
Happy Thanksgiving,
The Powell family

UPDATE: 6-14-06
Josh has an apt w/ his oncologist on the 21st. Please
Join us in asking God for his continued blessings. It has been 5 years
Now since he has been diagnosed with Neuroblastoma. We are
Grateful for the many prayers & good treatments that have healed him.

UPDATE: 3-22-06
If you are local, be sure to watch the Ronald McDonald House telethon this Saturday Night, March 18 from 7-8 pm. Josh was interviewed about his project of collecting tabs & cans.
Alex's Lemonade Stand will continue the Nationwide Lemonade Stand event on June 9-11th. Josh and Brittany are planning to host theirs on June 10th at the Ingles in Karns again this year. If you would like to participate, let me know. It would be great if we could extend the hours this year. Last year, we made $1000 in 4 short hours. We hope to exceed that Goal this year.
Sorry I haven't updated in some time. No news is GOOD news! Josh continues to be Blessed w/ good health. He feels great & lives life to it's fullest.

UPDATE: 1-14-06

Thursday, January 5, 2006 2:56 PM CST
I hope everyone had a very blessed Christmas & a joyful New Year.
We had a wonderful Christmas. Santa was very good to Josh & Brittany.
Above is an article about Josh, Brittany & their wonderful Grandparents.
On Dec 27, the Knoxville News Sentinel ran a story about their tab recycling
For the Ronald McDonald House.
Josh saw an orthopedic Dr just before Christmas. He got wonderful news
Regarding the scoliosis. He doesn't have it!!! Yipee!!! His spine does have
A curvature but not enough to be scoliosis & his Dr. thinks that w/ his age
& his "physical" maturity, it wont get much worse. Great news again! He
Wants to keep an eye on it but we are very relieved he doesn't require any
Treatment for it. Our cancer kids have gone thru sooooo much, it's so hard
To put them thru any further treatments.
May you & your family be blessed w/ health and happiness in 2006 and
May the doctors and researchers find that elusive CURE!!

UPDATE: 12-3-05
I am pleased to announce GOOD news once again!!
Still waiting on the results from one of the scans but the other
two look great. His blood counts look wonderful. We are
Truly blessed!!! We did find that he has a mild scoliosis,
A side effect of the radiation. We will have to see a
Specialist for that. But we have caught it early & it
Is mild. A Grandparent to one of the boys in Josh's
Karate class, who is also a chiropractor noticed it.
Isn't it awesome how God puts people into our lives?
If he hadn't noticed it & said something to me, we
Would not have detected it for sometime. God is
Truly AWESOME!! I am reminded everyday!
May you have a joyful Holiday season. "May The
Lord bless you and keep you and make His
Face shine upon you and be gracious unto you."
Numbers 6:24-25

UPDATE: 11-30-05
If you would remember Josh in your prayers for clean scans again.
He will be doing his six months scans @ ETCH 12/1 & 2/ 05
Thank you, Faith, NB HOPE, Cure, Lou/grandmother to Josh

UPDATE: 9-17-05
It has been awhile since I updated. No news is certainly good news!!
Josh continues to be blessed with remarkable health!
He is enjoying 7th grade (although he might not admit that he enjoys it).
He is currently the 1st chair trombone - although competition is stuff.
He is continuing karate & currently a green belt… working on his
Brown belt requirements. He has moved to the "adult" class & enjoying
The rivalry with the older guys.
Thanks for stopping by. God bless,
Sherry & family

UPDATE: 7-18-05
PRAISE THE LORD!! Josh is blessed with clean scans once again.
Thank you for all your prayers and support over the past 4 years. Josh is a living example of God's grace and mercy and we are eternally grateful for each and every prayer sent up on his behalf.
God bless,
The Powell's

UPDATE: 6-23-05
If you're local, check out the West section of the Knoxville News Sentinel. There is
a picture & article about Josh, Brittany and our friend Kristen who lost her brother
to cancer 2 years ago & their efforts to raise money for research through
Alex's Lemonade Stand.
If you dont have access to the article. I will post it below:
Making a 'Stand'
Siblings join project to raise money to fight childhood cancer
By ANGELA PATTERSON, pattersona@knews.com
June 22, 2005
Josh and Brittany Powell thought selling lemonade in front of their
local grocery store to raise money was not that big of a deal.
And while the physical act of running a lemonade stand may not
be that significant, the idea and spirit behind it is.
Josh and Brittany, ages 12 and 10, decided to hold an Alex's
Lemonade Stand in front of Ingles on Oak Ridge Highway June 11,
in memory of Alexandra Scott, the little girl who started the idea
of having lemonade stands to raise money for childhood cancers.
Alex was diagnosed with neuroblastoma as an infant; she died on Aug. 1, 2004.
According to the history given on her Web site, at 4 years old, Alex
told her parents, Liz and Jay, that she wanted to sell lemonade in the
front yard and give the money to the doctors in the Connecticut hospital
where she was being treated. She said she didn't care if she raised a lot
of money; she just wanted to do it. Her first sale earned $2,000, as
people came from all over the area to meet the tiny girl who manned
the lemonade stand.
News of Alex's project spread, and others around the country began to
hold lemonade sales to raise money for pediatric cancer research. Alex
went on shows such as "Oprah" and "Today" to tell her story. Through
donations and lemonade stands all over the United States, the 2004
lemonade stand campaign raised more than $1 million. As stated on the
Web site, Alex didn't know how she came up with the idea, but she knew
she did it "because all kids want their tumors to go away."
Josh also has a personal stake in it. When he was 8, Josh was diagnosed
with the same cancer Alex had. He spent the next two years at East
Tennessee Children's Hospital and hospitals in Nashville and New York,
undergoing both traditional and experimental methods of treatment. After
two surgeries, a stem cell transplant, 30-plus radiation treatments and 10
trips to New York for antibody therapy, Josh has been in remission since
he was 10. "All I could do was make the best of it," Josh said.
Mother Sherry Powell said having access to care tailored to children helped.
"We had a great hospital (East Tennessee Children's Hospital). They never
made him feel like he was sick. They really treated him well there," she said.
During Josh's experience, Sherry leaned on friends, family, and church members
at Beaver Ridge United Methodist Church for support. But she also joined an
online support group for parents of children suffering from childhood cancers,
and that's how she learned of Alex's Lemonade Stand.
"Alex's parents were members of the same online support group," Sherry
said. "I'd read about how they wanted to have a stand in every state, and so
I asked Josh and Brittany if they wanted to get involved, and they said yes."
So Josh and Brittany ordered a kit from the Web site, including flyers, posters
and coupons to purchase lemonade, which Country Time Lemonade furnishes
for all Alex's Lemonade Stands. By 4 p.m. the Saturday of the sale, Josh,
Brittany and Sherry had handed out more than 200 flyers and raised more than $900.
"We did it mainly to help raise money for childhood cancer research," Josh
said. "But we also did it to remember Alex."
And the money they raised will help do just that. Since Alex's first lemonade
stand in 2000, stands all over the country have raised $1.8 million, according
to the official Web site. The goal this year is to raise $5 million through 5,000
lemonade stands and donations.
Since Alex died, her family has carried on her legacy by overseeing Alex's
Lemonade Stand Fund, a foundation that provides grants to treatment facilities
around the country. The idea is to give grants to fund research and clinical trials
that will provide immediate options for children with cancers that strike during
childhood. Those efforts began and continue through the efforts of children.
"We just want to help find a cure," Brittany said.

UPDATE: 6-11-05
THANK YOU to everyone who supported Alex's Lemonade Stand!!!
Josh and Brittany held theirs today at Ingles on Oak Ridge Highway.
Thank you Ingles!!! We were joined by our friend Kristen who's brother,
Eric became an angel 2 years ago after a battle with Rhabdoscarcoma.
Josh became friends w/ Eric when they both were in treatment. Holding a
lemonade stand was a great way to honor Alex, Eric and the many other
children who has left their imprint on our hearts. Thank you Kristen &
Donna for all your help!!! We made .....drum roll please......
$704.50!!!!!! I wasnt sure if we would come close to last years total but
thanks to the generosity of many, we have suprassed it. Thank you everyone!!!!!
While we were in NYC we met many, many families. We know of at least
3 who are currently enrolled in clinical trials that were funded by Alex's
Lemonade Stand Fund. So, raising this money has very special meaning
to us. It is our hope that this will open up new and better treatments for
many, many precious children who need better treatments today.
Thank you to the Scott's for continuing Alex's Legacy and making a
difference in the lives of sooo many!!!! They have made this so easy
& so much fun!!! The new "Alex's Lemonade Stand Kit" is available
from many bookstores & locally here at Kroger stores. It contanins
everything you need to hold a stand. Also, please root on Afleet Alex
in the Preakness tonight. The owner's generously donate to the stand
each time the horse wins and if you havent seen the poster of the horse
w/ Alex Scott looking on, check it out (from Alex's website
www.alexslemonade.com). It is breathtaking!!!
Again, thank you to everyone for making today a huge success! Our
prayers are that this will bring healing to many.
God bless,
The Powell team
P.S. Thanks to Josh's Grandparents for making a stunning stand, spreading
the word and making today a success!!!

UPDATE: 6-6-05
Hope everyone had a good Memorial Day weekend. We just got back from
a blissful week at the beautiful, serene Cap San Blas, Florida. It
was wonderful to get away for a week of relaxation & fun in the sun.
We had a great time playing in the sand, chillin' in the pool &
horseback riding on the beach. We have been so blessed to enjoy this
getaway. It was just 4 years ago this week that Josh was
at ETCH for tests which revealed the horrific news of Neuroblastoma.
I have to give Josh, Brittany & their grandparents a big pat on the back. They
took on the task of taking all the aluminum pop tabs from the Ronald McDonald
House to the recycling center. They recycled 1300 pounds of tabs and got $600
for the RMH here in Knoxville. That will help a lot of families.
Alex's Lemonade Stand days are coming up, June 11th. Josh and Brittany will be
hosting their at Ingles on Oak Ridge Hwy from 10 -2. Before Alex gained her
angel wings, she said she wanted to raise $5 Million dollars. Was that one
determined little girl or what? I believe we can do it. Her hard work and
persistence is paying off. In 2004, 1.4 million was raised. There is so much
the researchers are learning about Neuroblastoma everyday. If we can
continue to support them, one day they will find the elusive cure.
Oh, and root for Afleet Alex in the Preakness. Each time the horse wins,
the owners graciously contribute to Alex's
Lemonade Stand Fund. Go to www.alexslemonade.com
for more information.
God bless,
The Powell's

UPDATE: 12-26-04
Elizabeth and Crew,
Thank you for the beautiful ornament and thank you for your many prayers. Josh's latest scans show no return of cancer. Praise the Lord!!!
May God bless you!
Josh, Brittany, Sherry, and Chris

UPDATE: 12-9-04
In this was manifested the love of God toward us,
Because that God sent his only begotten Son into
The world, that we might live through him.
1 John 4:9
Dear family and friends,
This week Josh underwent a battery of tests and I am
so happy that I want to shout from the rooftops,
JOSH CONTINUES TO BE BLESSED W/ GOOD HEALTH.
All scans are clear. All tests are normal. PRAISE BE TO GOD!!!
It has been a year of great joys without any treatments what so ever!!
It is hard to believe that it has been 3 years since Josh was in the
hospital having a stem cell transplant. He is truly a miracle, not
only that he remains cancer free, but there is no significant damage
to his body, other than some hearing loss & mildly suppressed
thyroid function. We can live with that & be grateful. When he
started radiation, they told us there was a good chance he could
loose one of his kidneys. We are so grateful that he doesn’t have
extensive damage to his body.
We count our blessings every day. Thankful for so much, including
Friends and family who have supported us for the last 3 years with
Your love, your support and especially your prayers. You each have
left a footprint on our hearts that we will cherish forever
Please pray for our friend Tora’s family. Tora joined the band of
angels on Dec. 1st. She will be sadly missed by many!
She was in the room next to Josh when she was diagnosed w/
Leukemia in October of 2001. She and Josh became instant friends & had a special bond. Please remember this family in your prayers
during this most difficult time.
Our Christmas wish & prayer, that God would bless all the dear
children in His tender care. May this season of miracles bring you
the gifts of joy, hope and peace.
Merry Christmas!!!
Sherry, Chris, Josh and Brittany

UPDATE: 11-23-04
Thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
1 Corinthians 15:57
This past Sunday was a wonderful Celebration of LIFE. Josh was
Baptized and joined our church. What a miracle it is, that Josh has
Overcome great odds & is here today to profess his life for Christ.
At this time of Thanksgiving, let us pause to count our blessings,
The freedom of this great county, the friendship you have shown
In us, and the gift of life. For all these things we are deeply
Thankful.
Please remember our dear friend, Tora in you prayers. She is
Recovering but still in the PICU at Vandy. She is an incredible lil' gal
w/ a great determination to live! God must have huge
Plans for her & Josh.
Wishing everyone a safe and blessed Thanksgiving.
May you be surrounded by love & enveloped in peace,
The Powell's

UPDATE: 11-1-04
Congratulations to Josh for being selected Student of the Month at
his school. He was one of three selected from his entire 6th
grade class. Quite an honor,
especially for someone who has
missed almost a year and a half of school and returned without missing
a beat. Way to go Josh, We're very proud of you!!
Please keep our friend Tora in your prayers as she continues to
recover from a bone marrow transplant at Vanderbilt. And Connor's family, also treated at Vanderbilt.
He joined the band of angels today,
One day after his 10th birthday.
He will be terribly missed and I'm sure his Family could use tons of prayers.
As we pray for the guidance and leadership of our country, I'd
just like to Quote a line from one of Clay Walker's songs:
"How in the world can we put a man on the moon when there's still a
need for a place like St. Judes".
'nough said. :-)
God bless you all & to all cancer survivors; LIVESTRONG
The Powell's

UPDATE: 9-10-04
Today we celebrate the 3yr anniversary of Josh's 7 hr surgery to remove his tumor.
We are eternally grateful to his talented surgeon for removing it in it's entirety and
I can never thank you enough for all the prayers that have been said for Josh.
God has answered them all! Josh is truly a miracle!!!
Josh started middle school this year & is really enjoying the liberties
that come With it. I never looked at school as such a blessing
until Josh became to ill To attend school. Now, I thank God for
each and every day. We have extremely
Blessed to return to a
"normal" life (I use that term loosely, anyone who has
Been thru this will tell you that "normal" is never the
"same as before"). But we are
grateful that Josh has been given a second chance at life!!!!!
My prayer is that every child diagnosed w/ Neuroblastoma would not
be robbed of their childhood & families would no longer grieve
for their babies!!!!
If you donated to Alex's Lemonade stand and/or participated in Lunch For Life
last year, I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart!!
Last year, The Children's Neuroblastoma Cancer Foundation
raised a little over $250,000.00 to fund neuroblastoma
research. The "Lunch for Life" program program is simple
way to help the hundreds of children who are diagnosed each
year w/Neuroblastoma. All you have to do is donate one day's
"lunch money". Visit http://www.lunchforlife.org to
help us fund the cure and please help us spread the word.
Please continue to keep Josh in your prayers. He will see his
Oncologist on the 23rd of this month. Check out the photo album
of Josh & his "new toy" & please Sign the guestbook.

UPDATE: 8-6-04
Wow! Where has the summer gone?! I cant believe it's time
to go back to school already! Brittany is so excited. She
cant wait to get back & see all her friends. Josh isn't so
anxious. Although he realizes what a blessing it is to
be healthy enough to go to school, he's just not ready
to go back. For the past three summers, he has been
on some sort of treatment. This summer he has had
the freedom of NO treatment & it has been WONDERFUL!
He's had a great time four wheeling, swimming & just
being a boy.
Josh was chosen as "Child of the month"
for the Fight for a Cure website. Check out the website.
It's really cool & has a cute picture of him w/ a friend he
made at the beach. Look for the link below.
In His care,
The Powell's

UPDATE: 6-24-04
It is with GREAT JOY I report that Josh's scans once again read "NO change, No evidence of neuroblastoma". Thanks to our wonderful team of prayer warriors,
we feel very blessed!!
Josh's thyroid functions came back a little abnormal. He could have some injury
due to the radiation. His Dr. is gonna repeat his thyroid test & he may have to see
an endocrinologist but that's no big deal (in the big picture).
Thank you again for you wearing down your knees for us. Please continue to pray
for all the children who are battling cancer & for the researchers to find a cure SOON.
Check back soon & say "Happy Birthday" to Josh. He will be TWELVE July 10th.
It's hard to believe. He was just turning 9 when this nightmare began. The past 3
years have passed so quickly. He is growing up sooo fast. :-)!!!!!
In His care,
The Powell's

UPDATE: 5-15-04
I talked with Josh's mom today and Praise the Lord he is doing well and is off all treatments. He will go back in June for another scan so keep him in your prayers. Sherry wanted you to know how much she appreciates all your prayers and how much it means to know you are out there praying....Elizabeth

UPDATE: 9-09-03
Thank you so much for the box of toys for Josh. He and his sister
are really enjoying them! Thank you for everything you are doing!
Prayer is the best gift we can give these children!!! It has always been my prayer that God would be glorified through Josh's healing. I know He is pleased with your service. Keep up the good work. May God bless each of you and your families.
Sherry (Mom to Josh)

UPDATE: 8-27-03

older child to have Neuroblastoma, so if we can keep him from
relapse, that is going to be a miracle.

ADDED: 8-16-03
Josh is 11 years old and has Dx.NeuroblastomaIV (childhood cancer). Pray that Josh's test & CT Scans will be clear.8/20/03 That he will be cancer "free".
