Lyndsay

UPDATE: 11-30

Lyndsay is still on the ventilator. Her chest xray did look some better today. She still is getting 65% oxygen from the ventilator. She has not spiked temps like she did on Wednesday which I feel is a good sign. Please continue to pray for her recovery and our strength as it's hard not having her here at home. Drew and Jordan are anxious to see her but can't go into the ICU due to their age.

Love, Lynne

UPDATE: 11-29

11-29-01Lyndsay was intubated and put on a ventilator last night after having respiratory problems. She spiked fevers up to 103.8 and had to have ice put under her arms to help get her temperature down as the Tylenol and Motrin was not totally doing the job. She is in the Pediatric ICU at our local children's hospital. We do not know if she is on the right antibiotic yet and cultures are pending from her blood and sputum. It is hard seeing her on a ventilator as this last occurred back in Dec. 29th, 2000. The paralytic drugs they give her to keep her from moving cause her to look so lifeless. Please pray for her recovery from this illness and wisdom for the doctors treating her. She has been a real fighter thus far and pray that we will get over this hump also. Also pray for our strength as we juggle schedules in order for myself or Buster to be with her at the hospital.

Love, Lynne

UPDATE: 11-27

I just received a call from Lyndsay's Mother in Virginia. Lyndsay is in ICU on 10L's of oxygen. For those who may not know that is a lot of oxygen. She is a very sick baby and needs your prayers for God's touch.

I will keep you posted as I hear news back from her mother.

God is faithful to your prayers. Thank you.

Elizabeth

UPDATE: 11-7

Lyndsay has been home with us a year as of 11-3-01. Praise God! She weighed 16 lbs. last week and is rolling over from her back to her front and then back over. She has been reaching her hands in front of her to touch her first doll. She has had a respiratory infection over the past week and needs your prayers. She is requiring more oxygen up to 3 liters at times. Lyndsay is eating three times per day by mouth and loves to eat usually 4-6 ozs. each meal. She seems to pick-up infections easily and has had several viruses and sinusitis over the past month. We try to live as normal a life as we can and take her to church with us on Sundays and Wednesday nights. The nursery workers love taking care of her and don't mind her oxygen or working with her feeding tube. Lyndsay now has hearing aids and the first time she had both in she made vocal sounds to speak. Please pray for her healing from this respiratory infection and that she will remain well and not as susceptible to infections.

Love in Christ,
Lynne

UPDATE: 9-26

Hello Everybody:

It's been a long time since we gave everyone an update on Lyndsay. Since Easter, Lyndsay has not been hospitalized. She went to the E.R. last weekend to rule out her cold was not turning into pnumonia. She has been steadily gaining weight and is now nearly fifteen pounds. We began feeding her baby food mixed with cereal about a month ago and is doing very good with her swallowing. Today, Lynne took her to have hearing aids fitted for her. She hearing loss can be compared to someone with normal hearing hold their ears down tightly with their fingers. The hearing aids should give her very close to normal hearing. We should have the aids in a couple of weeks. Lyndsay is also rolling over by herself and has figured out how to pull her Oxygen canula out of her nose. I am sure it is more that bothersome for her to have that hose in her nose all this time. She only needs 1/4 litre normally which seems very little, but she cannot kept her sats up without it. The pulmanologist said that since she is growing so fast now and her metabolism is so high, she may not wean off of oxygen until she slows down some. Lyndsay continues to receive physical, speech, and occupational therapy weekly. They have help get Lyndsay's hands open. Their goals now for Lyndsay is focused on eye and hand coordination. She has yet to grab hold of anything and has some issues with tracking with her eyes. Overall, we are pleased with Lyndsay's progress. Drew and Jordan dolt over her all the time and continually hug and kiss her all the time. We have truly blessed to have our three children. We appreciate your prayers and would like for you to know how they have been answered.

Yours in Christ,
Buster

UPDATE: 8-25

Lyndsay is fighting an upper respiratory infection now. She appears to be on the right antibiotic now, but has been running fevers up to 102. Please pray for her in getting over this hurdle as we will be going on vacation this coming week and would love to have a smooth week with her. She weighed 13 1/2 lbs. this week and had a hearing test which is about the same as it was in January. She has mild loss of hearing in her right ear and moderate loss in her left ear. We will be seeing an ENT doctor in a few weeks to see if any further medical intervention would help her hearing or if we will just go straight to amplification with hearing aids. Lyndsay is doing great with her eating by mouth. She is eating three times a day and loves eating a variety of fruits and vegetables. This week she got to eat macaroni and cheese and loves it. Her pediatrician was very pleased with Lyndsay's weight gain and how well she looked at her recent one year-old well check. Thank you for your continued prayers and support for Lyndsay and our family.

Love in Christ,
Lynne

UPDATE: 8-4

Lyndsay weighed 12 lbs. 1 1/2ozs. this week. She went for her eye appointment and the ophthalmologist felt she was focusing fine and not having any vision impairment. She also went for her video swallow test and did not aspirate anything, not even thin liquids as she was aspirating in January. We have been feeding her baby food by mouth (rice cereal, fruits, squash) and she seems to be enjoy tasting different foods. She likes squash and peaches best. Continue to pray for her growth in order for her to get off the oxygen as the growth will strengthen her lungs.

Love in Christ,
Lynne

UPDATE: 7-25

Lyndsay is 1 year old as of last Friday! She weighed 11 lbs. 15ozs. today at her doctor's visit with the lung specialist. He thought see looked great and was impressed by her weight gain and fat rolls. She's also getting quite long and is 23 1/2 inches long. She is still on some oxygen and we continue to pray for her continued growth in order for her to get off the oxygen. The lung specialist feels she will be off of it before she turns 2. Lyndsay is eating some by mouth and ate 1/2 jar of pears the other day at one feed. She will be having another video swallow test on August 2nd and we pray that she will not be aspirating any food or liquid. Lyndsay is really smiling big these days and is rolling from side to side. She is knocking over toys with her hand and really loves her giraffe with rings around it's neck and a beanie baby dog. Please continue to pray for these specific needs in regards to her oxygen, growth and oral feedings. Praise be to God for his awesome work in Lyndsay's life and faithfulness. Thanks to family and friends for all the prayers and support.

Love in Christ,
Lynne

UPDATE: 7-6

Lyndsay is just doing great! Today she weighed 10 lbs. 13 1/2 ozs. and is 23 inches long. She has been gaining about 1/2 lb a week lately. Her breathing is unlabored and she is resting well. She presently is on 1/16th of a liter of oxygen and we continue to pray for her to be off oxygen soon. We started feeding her a little by mouth with stage 1 fruits and cereal. We are going slow as she is having to learn how to swallow again as we had not given her anything by mouth since end of December. So far no aspiration! Lyndsay will be one year old on 7-20-01 which is truly a miracle. We thank God daily for her life and the power of prayer. Thank you for the continued prayers and support.

Love, Lynne

UPDATE: 6-13

Lyndsay is doing pretty well. She weighed 9 lbs. 10ozs. today and has just started rolling over on her own. She smiles daily and especially if you move her legs like your peddling a bicycle. She is still on oxygen, but only at 1/8th of a liter. The nasal cannula is starting to bother her as she reaches up with her hand or index finger and pulls it out of her nose often. Please lift up in prayer that she will not need her oxygen much longer and will be able to get off of it once and for all. She is loved much by her brother and sister who want to hold her often. Tomorrow we go for an appointment with her pulmonary doctor who has not seen her for a month and she has really fattened up since then. She actually has rolls on her arms and thighs. Lyndsay will be one-year-old on July 20th, which is just a miracle in itself and a testimony to the almighty power of our Awesome God who hears our prayers. Thank you for your continued prayers for our family as we feel blessed to have been chosen by God to care for Lyndsay and show her much love.

Love in Christ,
Lynne

UPDATE: 5-5

Lyndsay is doing well. She went for her 9 month check-up yesterday and weighed 8lbs. 3.5ozs. and is 21 3/4 in. long. She is now down to 1/8 liter of oxygen where two weeks ago she was on 1/2 liter. She is starting to cut teeth and is more alert and aware of her surroundings. She tries to pull her oxygen cannula out of her nose with her index finger. She holds her pacifier in her mouth and is getting some fat rolls on her wrists and thighs. We have a private duty nurse who has been taking care of her six hours a day which has helped Buster be able to get out and do the garden, yard work and take Jordan to preschool. We've seemed to have worked out Lyndsay's feeding issues and found the formula that agrees with her best and she has been having stools on her own without suppositories which had been an ongoing problem for months. Her breathing is unlabored since the addition of a second diuretic and she is content most of the day except when she's wet or hungry. Please pray for her continued growth and that she will be able to get off the oxygen soon. God is good and we are thankful that Lyndsay is still with us and that God has heard the many prayers that have been offered up for her. It's hard to believe that she will be 1 year old on July 20th and will be considered a long term survivor after that date as only ten percent of Trisomy 18 babies survive past their first birthday. Thanks again for your prayers and support.

In His Love,
Lynne

UPDATE: 3-31

Lyndsay is home! She still has some congestion in her chest but is very alert and seems glad to be back in her own home surroundings. She will be on an antibiotic for another 5 days. The cardiologists did an echocardiogram on her while she was in the hospital and there is just trivial leaks above and below her VSD patch which they feel are not flow significant. She is still requiring a diuretic (Lasix) to help with her chronic lung issues. Please pray for this lung infection to resolve, healing of her lungs so she can get off oxygen and continued growth with no further infections. She is such a cute little girl and we thank God for her life and the many she has already touched in these 8 months. Thank you for the continued prayers and support.

Love in Christ,
Lynne

UPDATE: 3-27

Lyndsay began having breathing problems and was unconsolable this past evening. We took her to the emergency room as she was requiring more oxygen also. She was diagnosed with pneumonia again. She has been admitted to the hospital and getting IV antibiotics. Please pray that Lyndsay will get over this infection quickly and that her body will get stronger to fight these infections. It seems like we've been a revolving door at the hospital lately as Saturday a week ago she tumbled off of Buster in the recliner as he fell asleep and hit her head on the hardwood floor. She sustained a skull fracture and was admitted then to the hospital for observation for two days. The CT Scan showed some bleeding under the fracture in the lining of the brain, but Praise God a second follow-up CT Scan tonight showed the blood to be resolving. We get a little discouraged at times with so many trips to the hospital but know that God is faithful and has brought her through thus far. Thank God for my mother who is at our every call for assistance in watching after Drew and Jordan when we get tied up with Lyndsay and having to take her to the ER. I'll keep ya'll posted on her progress and needs better and thank you for all the prayers which have been offered up for Lyndsay and us before and now.

Love in Christ,
Lynne

UPDATE: 3-17

Lyndsay continues to do well. She weighed in at 8lbs. 3ozs. yesterday. She is more alert and smiling off and on. She appears to be getting stronger and rolls her head from side to side but not yet rolling over completely. She is still on oxygen and we pray that as she gains more weight her lungs will become stronger so she can get off the oxygen. Our pray is for continued growth and strength along with keeping free of any infections which she is prone to giving her condition Trisomy 18. The pulmonary specialist saw her Wednesday and thought she looked good. He did not have to draw any lab work and wanted to see her back in one month. Her chest xray has improved with still need for a little more expansion in the right base of her lung. Thank you for all your prayerful support and words of encouragement.

Love in Christ,
Lynne

UPDATE: 3-11

Hello everyone. Lyndsay is doing very well at home. She is sleep nearly all through the night and sleeps well during the day. This is quite a change from prior to her surgery. Her lungs seem clear while we are still giving her breathing treatments twice a day. She is down to only three medications now, i.e; lasix, zantac, and potassium. We have been able to wean her oxygen down to 1/8 liter from 1/2 liter. We have hopes that once her lungs issues are resolved, she will be able to come off oxygen altogether.

We are still keeping Lyndsay in the house especially with the weather changes. Hopefully it will warm up soon and so we may take her to church and have family outings.

Thank you for your prayerful support.

Yours in Christ,
Buster, Lynne, Drew, Jordan, and Lyndsay

UPDATE: 2-27

Hello everyone. Lyndsay is doing much better today. Her fever has broke and is down to 1/2 liter of Oxygen. If she continues to keep progressing, she will go home Wednesday morning. She will have breathing treatments at home in order to complete her recovery of pneumonia, but we believe she will tolerate this very well at home. She began on her regular formula last night and started bolis feeding this morning which is how she was being fed at home. So far she has done well. For the last two days she has been resting peacefully, i.e., as she is allowed to with vitals every hour and respiratory therapy every four hours. Pray that she will continue to recover and regain her weight, for she lost nearly a pound during her hospital stay. She started regaining some of the weight today. Thank you for all of your prayers and supportive notes.

Yours in Christ,

UPDATE: 2-23 11:30PM

Today Lyndsay has begun doing much better. She has the antibiotic that was overdosed with out of system. She is still on an increased amount of oxygen, but so far it looks like no permanent damage was done to her liver and kidneys. Thanks for the prayers. She still has issues with her lungs and a fever. They are trying to rule out infections from other sources. She will begin taking formula again tomorrow morning if all goes well tonight. She did have a rough night last night, but seems to be relaxed now and able to rest. Please continue praying for her. She will stay the weekend in the hospital and if all goes well, come home Monday.

Thanks again for all your support and prayers.

Yours in Christ,
Buster

UPDATE:2-23

Lyndsay was taken to the hospital yesterday with some breathing problems. Once she was at the hospital, she was diagnosed with pneumonia. The doctor ordered an antibiotic, but a mistake was made in the amount given....instead of receiving 180 (not sure if ccs. or what)...she received 750. The bottom line is that she was given 5 times the normal dosage because the nurse read the order wrong!!!!!

She immediately got agitated and restless. Lynn said that this can affect her liver, kidney, and brain functions. They are doing lab work now to see if there has been any damage done to her organs. PLEASE PRAY that God will reverse what man has done.

Lynn said that she is on 6 liters of oxygen now, which is A LOT. She had a very rough night, and the doctors thought that the may have to intubate her. She was very agitated and fidgety, all night. They gave her a different breathing treatment this morning, and presently she is a little better, as far as that is concerned. This overdose of medicine can also cause convulsions. PLEASE, PLEASE PRAY for Lyndsay, and for her family, as I am sure this is verydistressing. PLEASE PRAY for wisdom for the doctors, and for protection and COMPLETE HEALING and REVERSAL of these effects on Lyndsay. Also, for comfort and healing of pnuemonia. Thank you SO MUCH! God Bless.

Father, we lift Lyndsay before Your throne, and ask for a touch from Your Healing Hands in Jesus Name. Amen...Thank You Father.

Love In Christ,
Julie

UPDATE: 2-20

Lyndsay will be 7 months old tomorrow. She is now weighing a little over 8 lbs. She is smiling off and on which is really great to see. She even holds her own pacifier in her mouth. She had her (hopefully) last surgery 2 1/2 weeks ago and still is having some pain related to healing around her gastrostomy tube. Please pray for continued healing at the site and for her comfort. She sleeps pretty much through the night but I still feed her at 4 hour intervals through the night by G-tube in order to get more weight on her. She is still on oxygen and will likely wean off the oxygen as she gets bigger and her lungs continue to heal from her chronic lung disease from being on the ventilator for 7 weeks during the first 2 months after birth. Continue to pray for her to get off the oxygen which will make her more comfortable not having something in her nose all the time. Lyndsay loves being rocked on her stomach in the recliner. I think she's getting a little spoiled, but after all she's been through a little spoiling is just in order. Thank you for all your prayers and support. We praise God for His mighty works especially in her life.

Love in Christ,
Lynne
