UPDATE: 6-16-06
Lyndsay had her muscle eye surgery yesterday. She did well
and tolerated the anesthesia fine. She even ate 5 ounces by
mouth yesterday afternoon. I can already tell that her eye
alignment is better. Her eyes used to cross when she looked
up and I did not see that happening after the surgery. Also her
eyes track together better side to side. Praise God that all
went well! Now for healing of the muscles and the blood to
clear up in her eyes over the next 2 weeks. Thanks for
the prayers and keep them coming.
Love,
Lynne
UPDATE: 5-29-06
Lyndsay is doing well. She had a real milestone last week at
school. She pushed her wheelchair by herself 3 times on her
own! Everyone at school was so amazed to see her do this.
Lyndsay is scheduled for eye muscle surgery on June 15th at
Children's Hospital of the Kings Daughters. This will be an
outpatient surgery. Both eyes will be operated on to fix her
eye muscle alignment. Her lip revision done in December looks
really good and has healed well. Our family will be attending
the SOFT (Support Organization for Trisomy) in Chicago this
summer. We are excited to be able to interact with other families
who have special children like Lyndsay. Here are some pictures
of Lyndsay from the April wedding in which she was the flower
girl and also her spring school picture. Thanks for the continued
prayers for Lyndsay and especially with this upcoming surgery.
Love in Christ,
Lynne
UPDATE: 1-28-06
Lyndsay is healing nicely after her lip revision/gum surgery. She
went to three doctor's appointments Wednesday. The eye doctor
said he thought her musceles eyes were getting stronger and more
equal. We are still to continue alternating eye patches during the week.
The rehab doctor is following her scoliosis and hips with her every 6
months xrays. Her right leg is 2 cm shorter than her left and we will
be getting a lift for her right shoe. Lyndsay is free standing, holding
onto a table with someone behind her for up to 20 minutes now. The
rehab doctor was impressed by this! Lyndsay also saw an endocrine
doctor for her elevated calcium level which has gotten higher over the
past few years. He thinks it could be coming from an underactive
thyroid as her thyroid lab values have been a little borderline over the
past 2 years. He had more lab work drawn on Wednesday to decide
about putting her on thyroid replacement. She is really getting longer
and is 39 1/2 inches long now. She weighed 34 1/2 pounds. She is
eating 4-6 ozs. by mouth @ each meal lately, Lyndsay loves going
to school and riding the school bus. Big news is that Lyndsay will be
in her first wedding on April 1st! She is going to be the flower girl for
Chuck and Lora who ultimately met each through Lora caring for
Lyndsay as a friend/nurse.
Love,
Lynne
UPDATE: 12-8-05
Lyndsay is really eating good these days. She is eating
4 to 6 ounces at each meal by mouth with a spoon. She
even enjoyed real food in the form of mash potatoes, sweet
potatoes and turkey at Thanksgiving Dinner. Pray for Lyndsay
as she will be having surgery on Monday, Dec. 19th at 1:30
p.m. at Children's Hospital of the Kings Daughters. She will
have outpatient surgery to repair the defect from birth in her
upper gum and do some revision on the underside of her lip
where her cleft lip was originally repaired. This area at her gum
is not closed so the teeth in this area do not come in correctly.
She has started losing her baby teeth, with a total of 3 gone now
from the lower front gum line. She is enjoying school and staying
well. Please pray for continued good health especially through
the winter months.
Love,
Lynne
UPDATE: 10-23-05
I have amazing news to report. Lyndsay has been eating really
good over the last week. She is eating stage 3 food with pieces
and chucks and just chewing away. She is not even spitting or
clamping down. She is eating 4-6 oz. by spoon at every meal.
This is truly an answer to long ongoing prayer. Praise God! She
seems to really have the eating and swallowing thing down now.
She is doing well at school and loves riding the school bus. She
is happy all the time and being more vocal. Keep the prayers
coming for her to stay healthy through the next viral months.
Love in Christ,
Lynne
UPDATE: 9-28-05
Lyndsay's CT Scan did not show any liver tumors. Praise God!
There was some nodularity and a fibrous band seen on the upper
part of the liver which is called "fibronodular hyperplasia" which is
a benign condition. I spoke to a gastroenterologist friend who said
that the AFP or tumor maker for the liver is not significant for liver
cancer unless it is over 40 and Lyndsay's was only 9.2. Continue
to pray for Lyndsay as we still have not determined why this is up a
little or why her calcium level is elevated. Thanks for all your
continued support and prayers.
Lynne
UPDATE: 9-25-05
Lyndsay is loving school! She goes from
9 am to 1 pm Monday through Friday on the school bus in
her wheelchair. She is growing weighing 36 lbs and 37
inches long. Recent blood tests show Lyndsay to have
an elevated calcium level higher than last year and her
liver enzymes are mildly elevated. Her parathyroid level
was normal which can cause the calcium level to be up.
Her recent ultrasound showed that her kidneys are okay
as childrien with Trisomy 18 are prone to Wilm's tumors
of the kidneys and liver cancer. A blood test for a tumor
marker for liver cancer is mildly elevated. She is scheduled
for a CT Scan of the abdomen on Monday at 10 am to see
if she has a tumor on her liver. Please keep this in
your prayers as this is of increased concern with the lab
results related to the liver being elevated. I hate to see
Lyndsay have to go through this but we will take one day at
a time as we have so far. Attached is Lyndsay's 5 year
old picture.
Love,
Lynne
UPDATE: 7-20-05
Lyndsay will be 5 years old tomorrow!! We all went to the pool tonight
after supper and Lyndsay enjoyed being refreshed in the kiddie pool
with the hot day we had here in the 90's. We celebrated her birthday
Sunday and attached is a recent picture and 3 pictures from her party.
She is 36 inches long (3 ft tall) and 34 lbs and wearing 4T's. She
recently saw her rehab doctor and she was very pleased with Lyndsay's
progress. Her xrays of her spine showed that the scoliosis curves had
improved a little since last xrays done 1 year ago. Lyndsay's hip xrays
are normal now and the last one showed some uncoverering of her right
hip joint which is now not present. She is rolling over and pushing up
on her arms to look around and see things. Her eye doctor who we
saw recently felt that her eyes were tracking better also. She is receiving
physical therapy this month in our home as summer school and Lyndsay
will start back to school at Florence Bowser Elementary in September--5
days per week from 9am to 1pm. She really did enjoy the last 3 1/2 weeks
of school at the end of the last school year. We praise God that Lyndsay
is staying so healthy even with attending school in May and June. Thank
you for your continued prayers for this little miracle girl.
Love in Christ,
Lynne
UPDATE: 5-16-05
Lyndsay is doing well at school. She is attentive and has been interactive in group
time especially with the musical instruments. She likes to shake the maraca and ring
with bells. She has been activating some new switch toys also. She especially enjoys
recess time where she gets to swing and wears her sunglasses while she's swinging.
Isn't she too cool. Miss Rosa her nurse is going to school with her. She is attending
school Monday through Friday, 9am to 1pm. Here are some pictures of her first day
of school and riding the school bus for the first time. We praise God she is staying
well and pray that she continues in good health. Keep the prayers coming!
Love,
Lynne
UPDATE: 4--29-05
Lyndsay's yearly IEP (Individual Education Plan) was done
on Wednesday with her Preschool teacher, PT, OT, and Speech
therapists. We discussed her achievements this year which
were larger in regards to gross motor. She is pushing off
her legs while seated on a stool or chair to come to the
standing position with minimal assistance. She also has
learned two signs in sign language--hungry and more. It was
decided that Lyndsay will start school next Wednesday, May
4th at school instead of the homebound program. She will
ride the handicap bus in her wheelchair and her nurse Rosa
will go to school with her. School will be from 9am to 1pm.
This will give Lyndsay 6 weeks of school Monday through Friday
until the end of the school year and then she'll start again
in September. Pray for Lyndsay as she journeys this new
adventure. Pray for her health to stay strong. Lyndsay
always loves going "bye-bye" and she should love this too.
Love in Christ,
Lynne
UPDATE: 3-12-05
We got back from my family practice conference/our vacation with Drew and
Jordan yesterday. We went to St. Kitts, West Indies for 5 nights/6 days. It was
gorgeous and the temperature was mid 80's all week. Lyndsay stayed with our
regular daytime nurse and a good friend who is a Nurse Practitioner at night.
We were thankful that Lyndsay continued to improve after her brief hospitalization
for viral croup and did not require antibiotics. Thank you all for your continued
prayers for Lyndsay. A big accomplishment occurred while we were gone with
Lyndsay. She went pee-pee in her little potty 3 times within 5 minutes and on
command. We have been working toward this as she wakes up dry many mornings.
We praise God for these events occurring in her life even with her disabilities!
Love in Christ,
Lynne
UPDATE: 2-28-05
Please be in prayer for Lyndsay. I had to take her to The Children's
Hospital this a.m. by ambulance as she was in respiratory distress.
She could not get any air in and they think that she as croup. She
thankfully responded to a breathing treatment with racemic epinephrine
as she was quite mottled. Her white blood cell count was elevated to
19,000 and they have her on antibiotics just in case to cover a bacterial
infection. The pediatrician thinks it is probably viral and that the elevated
blood count is due to a stress reaction from her respiratory distress.
She will be hospitalized for a few days. Pray for her speedy recovery.
In Christ,
Lynne
UPDATE: 2-24-05
Lyndsay had her yearly cardiology appointment to follow-up her heart
surgery. There has always been a trivial leak around to patch which
was placed between the ventricles. The echocardiogram showed
yesterday that the leak is gone and the heart is completely healed.
The cardiologist did not even hear a heart murmur. Praise the Lord!
Lyndsay weighed 30 1/2 lbs. and was 35 1/2 inches long. Yesterday
the physical therapist showed us Lyndsay's new accomplishment.
She is able to get up from the seated position to standing with minimal
support and bears weight on her legs/pushes off to get upright with her
AFO's (ankle supports) on. This was amazing to see her do. Please
pray that she will do better with her eating. She will take 1-4 ounces
of food depending on her attitude/food preferences and the rest of the
11 ounces are being tube fed to her. Lyndsay will likely go to school on
the schoolbus this September as she is doing so well. Thanks for your
continued prayer and support.
Love,
Lynne
UPDATE: 1-18-05
Lyndsay is in need of your prayers. She started with a croupy cough last night and
wheezing. Today she has been requiring regular breathing treatments and has a fever
tonight up to 101. Her symptoms remind me of RSV ( a winter respiratory viral infection)
with her clear runny nose. She feels miserable and her heart rate is up in the 160's
because of the temperature and breathing treatments. Please pray that she will get
over this infection without being hospitalized and will start feeling better soon.
On a more positive note, Lyndsay had her 6 month check-up last week with the rehab
doctor. She continues to follow her own curve for height and weight just under the third
percentile. The rehab doctor was amazed at her progress in standing with her AFO braces
and sitting for longer periods of time. She continues to be truly a miracle. She even lately
has been putting her lips together to sound out "mmm" especially when she wants me her
mom. Thank you for your continued prayers.
Love,
Lynne
UPDATE: 12-8-04
Lyndsay is over her cold and eating better. Both of these answered
prayers occurred 2 days after the new prayer update was put on her
web page. Isn't God good! He cares even about what seems to us
small requests. Lyndsay is actually opening her mouth for each bite
and taking 2-3 ounces at each meal now which is a big improvement.
Thanks for the continued prayers.
Lynne
UPDATE: 11-28-04
Hope all of you guys had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Lyndsay has a cold
with a cough right now. She has had a lot of mucus but has not had a
fever or had to go up on her nighttime oxygen. She enjoyed some mashed
potatoes and gravy at the Thanksgiving meal at her Nana's. Lyndsay has
been more vocal lately and even audibly laughing. We have been invited to
go to Children's Hospital on Thursday, December 9th for the annual Ethics
Day. We will be on the parent's panel and present Lyndsay's story. Pray
that her story of life will touch the doctor's lives who want to give up on children
with Trisomy 18 and show what a miracle she is. Lyndsay is bearing more
weight on her legs lately and continues to make gains in her therapies. She
is not eating very well by mouth though. She seems to be in the terrible two's
as far as her eating. She will clinch her mouth at times and spit her food. The
minute you hook her up to be tube feed she starts smiling and clapping. She
seems to know it's a lot easier to be tube fed. Pray that her feeding by mouth
will improve and that she will get used to different textures in her mouth.
Love in Christ,
Lynne
UPDATE: 8-21-04
Here are some latest pictures! One is Lyndsay's 4 yr old picture
and the others are from our recent trip in August to Myrtle Beach.
Lyndsay is presently on antibiotics for pneumonia. She is at home
thankfully and seems to be feeling a little better tonight. Keep her
in your prayers for her speedy recovery. She is back at work
receiving her therapies through the school system. She loves
her preschool teacher. Lyndsay is getting a "big girl" wheelchair
next month with big wheels to start self propelling. As you can see
she can support herself for a short period of time now on her arms
while on her stomach. She is getting stronger and really growing.
She is in 3 T's now and wearing a size 5 shoe. Pray for her to stay
well over the Fall and Winter months which has typically been her
harder months in fighting illness.
Love in Christ,
Lynne
UPDATE: 8-13-04
From there we went to Suffok to visit with Lyndsay. I had
not realized that Fisher and Lyndsay were so close
together so I changed our scheduled Wednesday visit
to Tuesday rather last minute. Lynne was able to get away
from the office and visit with us for a few minutes and
then she had to get back to her patients.
We got to see Lyndsay in her stander. She stood by
the chair on her own and was able to set up. She is
beginning to take her hands off the floor and sitting without
using them for support. These are great accomlishments for
Trisomy 18 children. She is almost 3 feet tall now and I could
not get over how she had grown. Her hair was much longer
and she is just so beautiful and precious. She loves her hugs
and kisses. Her favorite toy is a fish bowl that makes water
noises and plays music. She likes to take the bells out of it...lol.
Buster came in later and we visited him a few minutes.
Lyndsay's brother and sister came in with Dad and they
headed straight for Lyndsay to give her hugs and kisses.
They love her so much and watching them love on her and
play with her was a joy. My greatest joy of course was my
time loving on her and playing with her.
Her nurse was wonderful with her and we enjoyed getting to
know her. All in All, Lyndsay is doing great. Keep those
prayers going for her and her family.
UPDATE: 7-30-04
BIRTHDAY PICTURES!!!
UPDATE: 7-17-04
Lyndsay is doing great and will be 4 years old on Tuesday, July 20th.
Isn't God awesome! She saw her rehab doctor in early July and she
thought she was doing quite remarkable. Lyndsay weighed
26 lbs. and was 33 1/2 inches long. She is verbalizing more and even
said "Mama" the other day. She is always smiling and now laughing
especially at her siblings. She loves her childrens' choir at
church and loves to clap her hands. She will clap her hands also on
cue when I sing "If You're Happy and You Know It." She is having a
Dora the Explorer party on Tuesday night as she loves watching Dora
videos and claps at the end of them when her adventure is over. Lyndsay
loves going to the pool and splashing in the water. She will receive her
therapies (physical, occupational, speech) at home this next school year
again along with her preschool teacher at home. Hopefully this will continue
to allow her good health since she won't be exposed to the illnesses that go
around a school. Continue to pray for her health as she has not been
hospitalized since last August. Will be getting her 4 year old picture done
at the end of the month and will forward this on when I get it.
Love,
Lynne
UPDATE: 5-10-04
Lyndsay is doing much better. She is pretty much over her respiratory
infection except for a little cough periodically. Here are some updated
pictures showing her combing her hair, holding a cup in both hands,
standing up alone and feeding herself with her spoon. Thanks for the
answered prayers and concern for her.
Love,
Lynne
UPDATE: 5-1-04
Lyndsay has become ill over the last 24 hours. She started with
a cough and cried alot last night because she was uncomfortable.
I had taken Jordan away to Mom and Me Weekend (a GA weekend)
at Eagle Eyrie (Baptist Retreat Center) in Lynchburg, VA. When I got
back today she was wheezing and after her breathing treatment she
was still wheezing. When I listened to her lungs I could here she
has pneumonia in her left lung base. She apparently required 1/2 liter
of oxygen last night when she slept which is more than her usual 1/8th
liter. She got a first dose of antibiotics this evening. Please pray her
healing back to full health without any complications.
Love,
Lynne
Look! I can sit up all by myself!
UPDATE: 4-19-04
Lyndsay is doing great as witnessed by her new pictures.
She will be four years old July 20th. The doctors say her growth
rate is right at the 50% mark and this is awesome for a Trisomy as
lack of growth is one of their issues usually. We just praise God
for what He has done and continues to do.
UPDATE: 4-3-04
Lyndsay is doing well. She got over her respiratory infection and
started to get another one and I decided to put her back on her
prophylactic Bactrim (antibiotic) as she seemed not to get as many
infections when she was on it. She is about 26 lbs. and is 33 inches
long now. She recently had a eye appointment and the ophthalmologist
felt she was tracking much more evenly with both eyes and that her
left upper lid droop was pretty much gone on it's own. She just got a
soft scoliosis brace today as she has 24 degrees of spine curvature.
She is sitting up for much longer periods of time with her arms propping
her and even is standing next to the sofa with her AFO braces on with
little support. She is definitely getting stronger in her arms and legs.
She was babbling alot at childrens' choir tonight and even repeated a
few hand motions. Her yearly IEP meeting with her therapists, preschool
teacher and hearing specialist is coming up April 28th. At this meeting
we will be setting her educational goals for the next year. Her preschool
teacher is recommending that she stay at home again next school year
and receive all her therapies at home where she won't have to be exposed
to all the kids and have to ride the school bus. Pray that this will work
out for her.
Love,
Lynne
UPDATE: 2-27-04
Lyndsay has a mild case of pneumonia. She has been running
temps up to 101. Her antibiotic got changed yesterday as the one
she was on did not seem to be working. She is at home and please
pray for her healing from this without any complications. She is getting
new AFO's made to help with her ankle support and a scoliosis jacket
to help with some thoracic scoliosis which is 24 degrees. Last year her
curvature was at 23 degrees which has not changed much but since she
is more upright now in her stander, she needs to support for the curve not
to progress. She has be standing next to the sofa with only one hand support
on her while in her AFO's which is really great. She is getting much stronger
with her muscles and her rehab and genetics doctors feel she will be
walking around ages 6-7. Praise God!
Love in Christ,
Lynne
UPDATE: 2-3-04
Lyndsay has a little cold right now, otherwise she is doing well. She was
taken off 3 of her long term medicines (Lasix, Potassium, Septra) 2 weeks
ago and doing well without them. No fluid building up in her lungs. Praise
God! She went to the cardiologist last Wednesday and her EKG was normal and
her echocardiogram is unchanged from last year with only a trivial leak
around her VSD (ventricular septal defect) patch. He said he would see her
in a year again! Lyndsay saw her Rehab and Genetics doctors recently also.
Her development is continuing and currently she averages out at 11 months
developmentally which is a gain of 2 months since her last visit 6 months
ago. Two doctors both know have said they believe she will walk with her
splints on between the ages of probably 6-7 years old. Continue to pray for
her especially during the winter months for health and no hospitalizations.
God is good!
Love,
Lynne
UPDATE: 1-10-04
Lyndsay is doing great! She is well and that is a blessing during
this Wintertime virus season. She has several follow-up
appointments this month. She sees her rehab doctor and
the dentist Wednesday, Jan. 14th; her genetics doctor and
the audiologist who programs her hearing aids on Wednesday,
Jan. 21st; and her cardiologist for her yearly check-up and
echocardiogram to see how the heart surgery patch is holding
up on Wednesday, Jan. 28th. Keep her in your prayers for these
upcoming visits and to stay well. She is eating better these days,
but drooling alot from cutting teeth. She has a mouth full! She is
now sitting with support on her arms for up to 4-5 minutes. She
loves watching TV and especially her videos Nemo, Rugrats, and
Rolly Polly. She really pays attention to these. She smiles all the
time and is a happy girl who loves to go bye, bye on trips especially
to church on Sunday morning and Wednesday night. Thank you for
all your support and prayers.
Love,
Lynne
UPDATE: 12-18-03
Lyndsay has been sick for couple days now with fever and cough.
She has had temperatures up to 101 and has required several
breathing treatments. She had her flu shot but some resistant strains
are still showing up even in those vaccinated. Her cough last night
was barky and she had airway stridor to the point she was getting
mottled. I prayed for her airway to open up and she seemed to
respond to our efforts here at home despite my initial fear that I was
going to have to take her to the ER. Keep her in your prayers that
this virus will clear without hospitalization or further problems. Thank
you for your love and support of Lyndsay and our family.
Lynne
UPDATE: 11-12-03
Lyndsay is doing well! We just got back today from her ophthalmologist
and pulmonologist. Her ophthalmologist felt that she is tracking
better and more evenly with both eyes and that her left lid droop
was not as noticeable. The lung specialist said her lungs were
clear and that she looked great! She has just started with a sinus
infection and the lung doctor gave her an antibiotic to clear her up
and she got her flu shot today. Please pray that her infection will
clear up before we go on vacation to Lousiana at the end of the month.
She is sleeping well at night and still is on 1/4 liter of oxygen when
she sleeps. Her preschool teacher that comes to the house twice
weekly loves her so much that her teenage son bought a musical
piano for her to use during class time after hearing her talk so much
about Lyndsay all the time. Thank you for all your prayers and support.
Love,
Lynne
UPDATE: 10-10-03
Lyndsay is home and did well with her surgery today! She had her
adenoids removed. She did not have to have her tonsils removed as they
were rather small anyway. Her airway is soft some going to her lungs,
called tracheomalacia, which makes her sometimes get less oxygen in
certain neck positions. The urine reflux test showed that she does not have
any problem with urine refluxing from her bladder to her kidneys, but did have
a lot of phosphate crystals in her bladder probably from not getting enough
water or maybe too much phosphorus in her vitamins. She is in some pain
tonight and on some oxygen but should be fully recovered in 3 days. Continue
to pray for her during this time and thanks for all the prayers which have been
answered.
Love,
Lynne
UPDATE: 9-21-03
We are thankful we made it through the Hurricane Isabel unscathed.
We have alot of trees down and debris but God kept us safe and no
harm came to our home. Lyndsay is doing well. She is really making
big gains in her new therapies through the school system. She can
nearly sit alone with support on her arms. She is learning some
self-feeding after her preschool teacher brought whipped cream,
placed it on her tray and she took her hands from the whipped
cream to her mouth by her self. Lyndsay is tolerating her stander
for longer periods of time without getting bruises on the bottom of
her feet. She is talking alot more now with her vocalizations and
imitates Drew (her big brother) when he sticks out his tongue she
copies him. I'm not sure this is a good behavior to learn. Lyndsay
is scheduled for surgery on October 9th. They will be taking a look
at her upper and lower airways with a scope and plan on removing
her adenoids and possibly her tonsils. She also will have a VCUG
(test to check for urine reflux) and corrective procedure for reflux using
an injection called deflux if the problem exists. She will likely have to
stay overnight at the hospital after the procedures. Please pray that the
procedures go well without any complications. She should be able to
breathe possibly without oxygen at night as it is felt that she has obstructive
breathing when she sleeps. Thank you for your continued prayers and support.
Love,
Lynne
UPDATE: 8-30-03
Lyndsay is doing well. We all enjoyed last week at Myrtle Beach
with friends we went with from church. Lyndsay enjoyed the baby
pool with the waterfall jets and kept playing with them putting her
hands or legs over the jets. The picture with Lyndsay in the white
dress is her official 3 year old photo. She will start school next week
also like Drew and Jordan, but her preschool teacher and therapists )
speech, occupational, physical) will all come to the house to see her
each twice a week. Pray for her to stay healthy. She has as appointment
with the urologist next Wednesday and will update after that. The plan is
to schedule a day of outpatient procedures to include a bronchoscopy,
hearing test, and VCUG (urine reflux test) sometime in September.
UPDATE: 8-07-03
Lyndsay came home from the hospital yesterday afternoon.
She had been without a fever for 24 hrs when discharged and is
on oral antibiotics. She is still on a small amount of oxygen while
awake and previously was not on any oxygen. She is so glad to be
back home in her own bed to sleep. She slept 4 hours when she
got home yesterday! Please pray for continued healing of her
pneumonia and to get back off oxygen during the day while awake.
Thanks for all the prayers and support.
Love, Lynne
UPDATE: 8-03-03
Lyndsay was hospitalized this morning with pneumonia. She started
with a cough 24 hours ago and then had a temperature up to 103.2
early this a.m. Please pray for the infection in her lungs to respond
to the antibiotics and that she won't have to be in the hospital very long.
Love, Lynne
UPDATE: 7-07-03
Lyndsay is doing well. A few weeks ago Lyndsay was having this
stridor nose in her throat which would not clear with breathing treatments.
We went to see the ENT doctor and he decided it would be a good
idea to look at her airway with a scope (bronchoscopy). It has been
set up for her to go under anesthesia for the bronchoscopy, VCUG
(urinary tract test looking for urine reflux up into the kidneys), and her
annual ABR (hearing test). It is presently set-up for August 11th, but
I'm going to postpone this until later as we are all scheduled to go to
Myrtle Beach on August 16th and the stridor noise has resolved since
she's been switched to Zyrtec from Claritin for her allergies. I'm just not
at peace doing all that before leaving the next Saturday and there has
been some mention by the ENT doctor that he might do a tonsillectomy
and adenoidectomy at the same time. I guess he decided this after looking
at her sleep study results.
Lyndsay will be 3 years old in 2 weeks--Praise God! What a miracle she
surely is. We are thankful for no recent respiratory or urinary tract infections.
Please pray for her to be able to get off her oxygen at night. She is off
oxygen during the day while awake, but is on 1/4 to 1/2 liter at night or during naps.
Will have new pictures soon! Thanks for all your continued prayers and support.
Love in Christ,
Lynne
UPDATE: 6-15-03
What can I possibly say? Lyndsay is beautiful and a total joy.
What miracle....this child that was not to see her first birthday will
next month be three years old. She is doing great and we were
blessed to be able to attend church with her Sunday night and see
her participate in the children's choir presentation. Such a joy it was.
Her church family is very supportive and loving and they all love
her very much. She truly loves her brother and sister and just seems
to light up when they come play with her. God chose a very special
family for her and our visit was just wonderful. Lyndsay and Lynne
also did a video clip to be aired on our upcoming telethon. We thank
each one of you for your prayers and I wish you could each see in
person the results of those prayers as I have been priviledged to do.
God bless you all,
Elizabeth
UPDATE: 6-04-03
I spoke with Lynne on the phone today and she said Lyndsay is
doing great. They have just worked out her therapy/school
schedule and they will be doing it in the home instead of Lyndsay
having to go to the school. I am so excited that I will be seeing
her on Sunday and its seems our little sweetie is in the children's
choir at church and I will get to see her perform Sunday night. As
I understand it she gets to ring the bells...what a joy. Keep her
in your prayers and I will give her a big hug and kiss for all of
you.....Elizabeth
UPDATE: 5-26-03
Lyndsay is doing fairly well except for a recent cold. She's been a
little congested in the chest which required her going back on oxygen
for a little while, but was off oxygen during the daytime today. We
seem to have fought this infection off without an antibiotic. She went
to the rehab doctor last Wednesday and weighed 23lbs. 10oz. She
is such a happy girl and smiles spontaneously to everything. She has
been determined eligible to receive her therapies through the school
system starting in September as she will be ineligible for early
intervention after age 3. It's hard to believe she will be 3 years old
on July 20th. Thanks for your continued prayers and support.
Love, Lynne
UPDATE: 5-04-03
Lyndsay came home today! Praise the Lord! She is doing much better.
She is on 1/2 liter of oxygen when usually she is on none when awake
and 1/4 liter when sleeping. She is on antibiotics which helped turn
around the 102.6 fever, but not really sure where the source of infection
was. Her blood cultures never grew out anything. After 2 1/2 weeks
in the hospital we are glad to try to get our lives back to our norm,
as Buster, myself and our nurses took turns staying with Lyndsay
while she was hospitalized. Thank you for all your prayers and
continue to pray for Lyndsay's health--to stay well and get off the oxygen.
Love, Lynne
UPDATE: 5-01-03
We thought that Lyndsay might come home today, but she
spiked a fever to 102.6 this a.m. She has been pretty miserable
all day keeping that temp most of the day. Her lungs and urine
are not infected and the source for the temperature is likely coming
from her bloodstream. She still has her central access line in her
subclavian vein and it could be making her have an infection. She's
also going through drug withdrawal from the multiple sedating meds
she was on while on the ventilator. Please pray that the source of the
fever is found and that her temperature comes down. Pray for her
comfort during this time as it is hard seeing her some uncomfortable.
Love, Lynne
UPDATE: 4-29-03
Good news! Lyndsay is doing much better. She is only on 3 LPM
of oxygen via a nasal canula. Lynne says that she has been very
active and playful today. Drew and Jordan were able to come see
their baby sister and all three were delighted to be together again.
It looks like Lyndsay will be transferred out of the PICU and into
a regular room tomorrow. Please continue to lift Lyndsay up for
complete recovery and a speedy trip home.
In Christ,
Lora
UPDATE: 4-28-03
Lyndsay was extubated yesterday and did well for several hours;
however, she developed stridor due to airway swelling. Her oxygen
saturation started decreasing and the resident was preparing to
re-intubate her, but Lynne intervened and was able to convince
them to try Bipap. They also started her on a different steroid
called Decadron which is good at decreasing airway swelling.
The respiratory therapists worked all night with Lyndsay using
seven different masks with the Bipap and finally found one that
would seal on her little face. She had to have 10 LPM of oxygen
via the Bipap which pushes the oxygen into her lungs. About
3:00 AM things started looking up. This morning, Lyndsay was
able to come off the Bipap and is now on a regular face mask at
10 LPM and her oxygen saturation is around 95%. Lynne says
that Lyndsay is awake, smiling and playing with the hair of her
babydoll. The Decadron appears to be working on decreasing
her airway swelling and her chest x-ray looks a little better. Her
stridor is diminishing. We are so grateful that Lyndsay did not
have to be re-intubated. Praise the Lord! We ask that you continue
to pray for Lyndsay's complete recovery and that she will be able
to come home soon.
Looking to Him,
Lora
UPDATE: 4-25-03
Lyndsay is still in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit on the ventilator.
Her oxygenation has improved some and is only requiring 50%
oxygen now. They say her chest xray is improving. She will have
been on the ventilator one week tomorrow. Pray that she will
continue to wean off the oxygen and get off the ventilator soon.
Love, Lynne
UPDATE: 4-22-03
Lyndsay has been in the hospital since Thursday night. I flew in
early from Orlando where we were vacationing with our older
children. Our nurses were watching Lyndsay this week while we
were gone. Lyndsay got pneumonia in both lungs and had to be
intubated and put on the ventilator on Saturday and is in the pediatric
intensive care unit at Children's Hospital of the Kings Daughters. She
has improved some as initially she was requiring 100% oxygen and
now is down to 60% oxygen on the ventilator with saturations in the
90's. The chest xray looked some better yesterday. Please keep Lyndsay
in your prayers as we thought we had made it through the winter months
without big problems. Lyndsay had not been hospitalized for a year and
a half before this episode. Praise God! Specific prayers would be for her
to come off the ventilator soon and for her lungs to heal and not require
as much oxygen.
Love, Lynne
UPDATE: 4-20-03
Lyndsay is very critically ill and in the PICU at the children's hospital.
She is on a ventilator at 100% FiO2 and requiring a blood transfusion.
The doctors are keeping her paralyzed and sedated. She may be going
into acute respiratory distress syndrome and needs everyone to pray
and lift her up for healing.
Lora
UPDATE: 4-19-03
Lyndsay is very ill. Her oxygen requirements steadily increased
and on Thursday night, she was admitted to the Children's Hospital
of the Kings Daughters. Lynne flew home from Florida emergently
on Friday and has spent every minute since then with her precious
girl. Lyndsay is now very critical and was transferred to the PICU
where she was intubated and placed on the ventilator. Even on the
ventilator, she is requiring high amounts of oxygen and is currently
on an FiO2 of 85%. They are keeping her sedated and paralyzed.
Please pray for her. We all love her so much and it is so hard to see
her like this. She desperately needs the healing touch of the Father's
hand. So, let us all pray without ceasing.
In Christ,
Lora
UPDATE: 4-16-03
My name is Lora and I am one of Lyndsay Stockman's nurses. Lynne
and Buster are on vacation with their two oldest children while Debbie
(Lyndsay's other nurse) and I are taking care of Lyndsay. Lyndsay
became ill with a cough, nasal congestion and fevers up to 103. She
is still on an antibiotic for her recent UTI. Her oxygen requirements
have increased to 1.5 LPM while she is sleeping and continuous oxygen
therapy at 1/2 LPM even while she is awake. Before this illness, she
only required 1/2 LPM while sleeping. Additionally, she is having very
loose stools and her urine output appears to be decreasing. Although
she is fussy at times, she continues to be a joy to take care of. Lynne
asked me to write this update and send it along to you. We all would
appreciate the uplifting of Lyndsay before our Father and prayers for
her complete recovery.
Thanks so much,
Lora
UPDATE: 4-05-03
Lyndsay has another urinary tract infection after just being
treated for one and finishing an antibiotic about a week ago.
We are waiting on the culture result to see what to best treat
it with as there are usually bacteria present that are resistant to
several antibiotics. Please pray for her in getting over this infection
and to keep her healthy. She will see her Ophthalmologist and
Pulmonologist on 4-23-03. Lyndsay is presently being evaluated
for school so she can continue to receive her therapies (speech,
physical, occupational) after she turns 3 years old in July. It is a
scary thought sending her to school on the school bus in September.
Her nurse will go with her and she will be at school from 9am to
1pm. Thank you for your continued prays and support in lifting
Lyndsay to our Father.
Love, Lynne
UPDATE: 3-16-03
Lyndsay has a urinary tract infection. Her urine culture results are
pending and have started her on Bactrim, but this antibiotic may
be resistant to the infection. Please pray that she'll get over this
soon and not have any complications.
Love, Lynne
UPDATE: 2-26-03
Lyndsay is doing better! Thanks for the prayers. She is over
her respiratory infection after a course of antibiotics. We had
tried to take her off Lasix but could not get her off oxygen and
she kept have apnea episodes when she slept. She's off oxygen
for the second day now while awake since she got sick and back
on daily Lasix which helps her breath better. She went for an
overnight sleep study last Friday night, but won't have the official
results until we see the pulmonary doctor in April. She is smiling
so spontaneously all the time now. She is eating well by mouth
and getting in a load of teeth at the same time. We covet your
continued prayers for her and pray that she'll stay well
through the remaining Winter.
Love, Lynne
UPDATE: 2-11-03
Lyndsay has a respiratory infection which started Sunday night.
She is running temps up to 102 and coughing a lot. She is tired
of me bulb suctioning her nose out and is on oxygen even during
the day since yesterday. Please pray for healing for her from this
infection and that she will not have to be hospitalized. We can
usually manage her better at home as we have oxygen, oxygen
monitor and nebulizer here. Thanks for your continued prayers
and specifically for this need.
Love, Lynne
UPDATE: 2-08-03
Lyndsay is now a traveling girl! She has her own little wheelchair
(with her name on the back of the seat) and a stander which we
got at the end of January. We took the wheelchair to church last
week and everyone thought she looking like a big girl.
She saw her cardiologist last month and the echocardiogram
showed her heart patch is doing well with only trivial leaks
around to edges. The leaks are not causing any shunting or
pressure problems in her heart and he could not even hear
a murmur. He said he'd see her in a year.
We also went to the pulmonary doctor the week later and
she said Lyndsay looked and sounded great. She stopped her
Lasix and potassium a week and a half ago and Lyndsay has not
required any additional oxygen and is still off oxygen while awake.
Lyndsay is scheduled for a sleep study in a couple of weeks
as she still pauses her breathing during deep sleep and we
are trying to figure out if it is her tongue causing this or a
neurological problem. Continue to pray that Lyndsay will
get off her oxygen at night and during naps and that her
lungs will get stronger.
Buster took the enclosed picture of Lyndsay while in her
wheelchair recently. I plan sending a picture of her in her
stander also soon.
Love, Lynne
