UPDATE: 9-3-10
Hi everyone,
Well it’s been a long hard week. Our journey with Tyler seems to get better then worse. We have been to the doctor every day this week. Tyler went to see Dr. Olson first because he was having a hard time and could hardly swallow with the pain. He had a rash all over him and wasn’t feeling good at all. His skin was peeling off him.
Dr. Olson said he had strep and that she thought the rash was from that. Well then he said his jaw was hurting and he couldn’t swallow, so back to the doctor. They wanted him to see Dr. Pye, the skin doctor. By this time Tyler was really broken out and peeling really bad. We got there and she said that sometimes leukemia can have a rash like this, so she did a biopsy and took a chunk from Tyler’s stomach.
Tyler screamed during the biopsy because it hurt and the doctor was not sympathetic at all…told him to stop that or he was going to make her stick herself (Tyler should have such problems). He would not have said it hurt if she wasn’t hurting him He ended up with four stitches that will have to be taken out in two weeks.
Anyway, we have to wait two weeks for results. I pray its not cancer. It also could be a lot of other things. She gave us cream to cover his body twice a day. It’s like Vaseline [ yuck ]. He has not been able to return to school.
Then were were off to see Dr. Bedrux, Tyler’s jaw doctor. He said that he can see and feel Tyler’s jaw pulling to one side that he has to call Dr. Rodriguez in Maryland. There was nothing he could do here in SC to help Tyler. Now we are waiting to here from Dr. Rodriguez. Tyler is now back on pain meds.
After the doctors visit, all four boys were starving so we were off to feed them. Tyler got sick at the Golden Coral, with the other three screaming to stay and eat [ geez! ].
So, Monday we are all ready to start again. Time to see Dr. Becks, the leg doctor who is suppose to set him up for surgery on his legs.Tyler is limping once again. He is also walking bow legged and on the sides of his feet, saying that his legs hurt.
One more thing…Tyler’s mom also suffers and needs your prayers. She’s an awesome mom. Can you imagine having to go through this with your child? Sometimes Jayden feels left out, being too little to understand all that’s going on.
I watched a movie last night called “Letters to God.” It was about a little boy named Tyler that had cancer. I couldn’t finish it. It was too much like what we are going through, except he had a brain tumor. If you have a child with cancer or in remission from cancer, I wouldn’t watch this movie. I had to turn it off. It just made me cry.
Thank you all for your love and support for Tyler. We love you all. He really enjoys all the snail mail. It makes Tyler smile. Thank you for all the cards that children have made for him in bible school. May God send his blessings to each and every one of you.
UPDATE: 8-23-10
Hello Everyone:
Tyler got sick last week. He said his stomach hurts and that he feels
like he’s going to throw up. He also broke out with a rash all over.
We thought he must have a stomach virus. He was better on Monday so he
went to school. But he came home today with the rash again and he said
that his stomach hurts.
He has appointment eight in the morning to see the family doctor. When
you have a child that has had cancer the first thing you think is
cancer. I pray not. I will let you all know what his doctor says.
Tyler has to go to musc cancer clinic for a heart test on September
13th and they will also be checking his ear that had a hole in the
drum to see if he can still hear. At one time he couldn’t hear out of
his right ear. He has an appointment with the leg doctor September
26th to set up leg surgery and another appointment in August to check
on his jaw. Tyler is eating but not gaining weight…he’s still about 59
pounds. His doctor isn’t happy about that. He looks so, so skinny and
his legs are hurting him again. Their is just never an end, but we are
so lucky that Tyler is doing as well as he is. God’s with him.
I want to thank Uncle Jermey for his love of Tyler, for fixing Tyler’s
computer and all that he does to help Tyler.
Tyler wants to go eat hot chicken wings, so I think we will get up
money to take him to do this with his brothers. I don’t no how he eats
it with no teeth, but he does.
Tyler’s school is going to help with getting things he can eat so he
will be able to eat at school. Thanks once again to Steven, for
getting the parts to fix Tyler’s computer. He’s Tyler’s guardian angel
and is always there for TyTy.
Stevens son must be so proud of his dad, o care of a child like Tyler
the way he does. He’s got to be one heck of a dad to his boy. God
bless you Steven.
Tyler is in third grade and growing so tall. He will be 10 years old
on October 9th, and has been through so much in his short life time.
He really is a trooper.
****Up Date******
We just got back from the doctor. Tyler has strep that has turned in
to scarlet fever. That’s what the rash is. He also has a bladder
infection and some other infection that they don’t know what it is.
They sent it to be cultured.
Prayers need for Tyler…his little face is swollen and red. He is very
contagious and won’t be able to go to school. Please pray for Tyler,
and I know our little hero will be feeling better in no time!
UPDATE: 7-31-10
Hello everyone,
Tyler saw the doctor yesterday about his jaw. They said that the skin is pulling too tight on his scar and they want Ashley to massage it. They will have to watch this closely because it can cause a lot of pain. But it hasn’t yet.
Tyler gets scans in September to make sure the monster isn’t back in his body. [I HATE CANCER!!!] He will all so have leg surgery around the end of September on both legs to remove his screws. I just pray he will be able to walk.
We are hoping to send him to school so he can be around other kids besides his brothers…and he will learn so much more. Tyler will be in third grade. I got him a few new pairs of pants and was able to find him some shirts at Wal-Mart marked down to five dollars.
Tyler is playing his Xbox again thanks to Mr. Steven and his son. They sent Tyler a box of games. We opened the box and Tyler went, “Wow just look at this!” He said, “Nanny, Steven really cares about me. He’s really a nice man.” Thank you Steven. You have always been here for Tyler. We thank God that he sent you to Tyler and our family!
Thanks everyone who has helped Tyler fight his cancer. You all are the reason he’s here. God heard your prayers. But please let’s pray Tyler stays in remission.
The Little Rebel is going to have another cruise-in for Tyler on September 18 to help us with gas and the other things Tyler needs. We have a $2,000 hospital bill in Maryland that has to be paid before Tyler can go back up there for his next surgery. Medicaid doesn’t pay everything. But thank God, it paid the most of it. Dr. Rodriguez donated his services for Tyler. He’s just amazing and such a great doctor. God has sent us so many angels!
Please say a prayer for all the cancer kids. Unless you have a child with cancer, you don’t know what these families go through each day. Even when the child’s in remission, there is just so much worry. Will it come back? Will God take our child to heaven? And like Tyler, his little body is all cut up with scars everywhere. You have to go watch him suffer with shots, being cut open, not knowing if he will pull through the next surgery. Can you imagine this little nine-year-old having 41 surgeries?
God is still with us and I have my faith. There are even kids that go through more than Tyler has. Kiss your kids each day and tell them you love them. I do. You don’t know what tomorrow will bring.
God bless. We love you all.

UPDATE: 7-20-10
Hi everyone,
Tyler is still not well from his surgery. Doctor says it is going to take a while. Tyler woke up with a temperature yesterday of 102 . He felt bad all day. He’s up and playing again today, though.
His little mouth is already turning side ways again. His mom says a lot of it is because he has no teeth. They can not give him implants because of the metal and the dentist said Tyler cannot hold false teeth in. So he has to deal with it and eat soft foods. Yesterday he was gumming a ear of corn though.
I was wondering if any of you had any X-box 360 games your not playing any more? Tyler would love to have them. He has beat all his and is bored to death. We cannot afford to go buy these. Ssomething went wrong with his computer so he can’t use that right now till we can get it fixed again.
Tyler will be having surgery on his legs around the end of September or August. No date yet, they just say he has to have it done soon. Tyler still weights only fifty-nine pounds, but he is eating really well. I wish he could gain some weight! The doctor said that would help his legs. I sure hope his legs don’t start hurting again when the weather gets. cold.
We wanted to go to Charleston for Courageous Kids reunion but the doctors don’t think that is a good idea with the water slides and air boats that will be there. Tyler could fall and mess up his jaw after all he’s been through. I will miss seeing everyone, but must do what is best for my TyTy.
Please keep praying for Tyler. He has so much more to go through and I know that my faith has to stay strong. It was very hard to see him cut almost from ear to ear, but we knew that it had to be done and will have to be done over and over again. He’s such a trooper.
My sincere thanks to each of you. There are too many to thank individually, but you know who you are. Time and again, we have seen that God has sent so many angels to help us. We are so grateful- we love you. God bless you all.
Nathan is doing better but will have a scar from his burn. I will never let him have another sparkler. He will just have to use the little poppers you throw on the ground.

UPDATE: 6-15-10
Hi all. I read a web page this morning about a little girl named Ellie. It made me get on my nees and thank God for all the miracles he has given Tyler and this family.
I have learned a lot going through this journey with Tyler. I learned that the most inportant thing is to keep your faith and know that God is with you all the way, that God has a reason for what he does and that he answers prayers. I also know that there is always someone worse off than you are. No matter how hard things are, there are families that are having it much worse. I learned that there are people that care and want to help…that you take nothing for granted…that this could be your child, that you teach you children about God and you tell them each day you love them. No one knows what tomorrow will bring. I thank God each day for all my blessings, that he has kept me in good health so I can be with Tyler and Ashley on this long journey. It’s not over. Tyler still has a long way to go. I know God will be right with us.
Once I took Tyler to church, I think he was four or five, to the Easter play. I will never forget his words as he lay in my lap, because he was sick from chemo. He looked up and asked, “What is this place nanny?” I told him it was God’s house. He said, “Nanny, that’s the man you said stayed at the hospital with us and was holding your hand.
I just wanted to share this with you all. I learned to love and respect others and to share what you have. There are so many families that need support. If god decides that it’s time for Tyler in one of his surgeries, that God picks the most special roses in the garden for his kingdom and that you will meet with your babies again one day.
I feel so sorry for these kids and there families. Even though I know they’re going to a better place. Gosh how they are missed! And their families are hurting. I ask God to be with Ellie’s family to comfort them. I pray that there will be something soon that will kill the cancer monster.
Okay, now for Tyler. He is fine and eating, and he even played a game yesterday day on the Wii. The house let him bring it to the room even though they were not suppose to. He sees the doctor Thursday. He still has a lot of drainage, so I don’t know if they will remove the drain tube from his neck. He’s getting stronger each day, getting around with out a car is really hard to do, but again Gods is with us.
Tyler’s doctor is the most wonderful man in the world (oops, besides my George!) It shouldn’t be long defore we are sent home because of the medicaid. Tyler will be having scans in Greenville to make sure the monster hasn’t come back. I know it hasn’t, but we need to be safe. He has an appointment on the 26th (I think) to look at his legs and make sure all the screws are still in place. All this will be in Greenville.
UPDATE: 6-13-10
Hello Everyone,

Thanks to the flights of hope who will be flying us there and back. Thanks to all the people at Little Rebel who had the cruise-in in for Tyler. Thanks to a wonderful lady named Leeann and her wonderful family…you are so much appreciated. You worked so hard at the cruise-in. Leeann told everyone about Tyler and arranged the cruise-in. She has a heart and loves helping others.
Also all of you who sent cards, and to others who have done things to help, we thank you all so much. You know who you are. We appreciate all that been done. Tyler loves getting mail, so are cards are appreciated address at the top of page.
Tyler is doing OK. He is not scared to have the surgery because he knows it will help him. Please pray for him and pray that we won’t have to go through what we did in August. It’s so hard to watch your child go through all this not knowing when he goes in if he will be coming home with you. We have the best doctor, Dr. Rodriguez. He is wonderful and takes care of Tyler as if he were his son. Thank you Dr. Rodriguez, we love you. The world has some wonderful caring people out there.
I will be leaving Nathan with my husband. The little guy is older now and I think it will be aright. Ashley will leave Ethan and Jayden with their daddy. I hope we won’t be gone too long. I know the other kids will miss us. When things like this happen to a child, it’s not just that child that suffers. It’s the whole family. Please kiss your child and tell them you love them. You don’t know what tomorrow may bring. Think what if this were your child? All I ask is to say a prayer for these kids. God hears those prayers. One other thing…thank you Cancer Society of Greenville for the wonderful photo of Tyler. I have never seen anything so beautiful!
We love you all.

UPDATE: 3-21-10
Hello,
We took Tyler to Gean Gores car show to help raise money for Courageous Kidz, a community that strives to be a Safe Haven for Kids with Cancer. This organization has helped us with Tyler so many times. It was wonderful and we got to go to the Beacon for supper. The food was great. Tyler got tired and lay in his wagon and went to sleep for a couple of hours. He gets tired easy. He is still pain free, thank you Jesus. Flash, Debbie made me feel so good when she stood in front of everyone there and said that Tyler is her hero.
Tyler will have surgery in June on his jaw again. This will be number 39 or 40…I have lost count. So please keep him and our family in your prayers. Surgery will be back in Maryland. Dr. Rodriguez called and said he’s setting it up and will contact us with the date.
Thank you Flash for all the wonderful things you do to help these kids. You are a special lady and we love you so much.
Nathan had his 3rd birthday Sunday. Can you believe he’s three already?
Jayden was also good at the car show. Ethan stayed home with mom Ashley.
I want to share this also with you. While in line waiting to get our food this young lady ran up through the line and stopped at Tyler. She looked at Tyler and said, “I saw you walking across the parking lot and I don’t know what made me do this but something said that I must go to you and give you this.” She said it was her last five dollars and she wanted Tyler to have it. She said she didn’t know Tyler or anything about Courageous Kidz. She then hugged Tyty and walked away. I think God sent her to Tyty to let me know not to worry.
God works in so many different ways.
PLEASE PRAY FOR ALL THE CANCER CHILDREN AND BE THANKFUL YOU HAVE A HEALTHY CHILD. AND PLEASE TELL YOUR CHILD YOU LOVE THEM EVERY DAY.
I love my boys with all my heart. It is so hard on the brothers and sisters and in our case, cousin Nathan,
when a child has cancer. They miss birthday parties and don’t get to do things other kids do because there’s just not enough income to care for the sick child. Jayden will be 5 in June. He’s only had one party because his brother has been in the hospital on his birthdays, having surgery. We’re expecting this again this year too. These siblings have a hard time coping.
Even though Tyler is in remission he has so much damage to his little body that the caner has done and he is seeing doctors, in and out of hospitals. His little body is sooo scarred. He will have to go through this the rest of his life, though I’m praying not as often. The last seven years he has been to h—— and back.
Pray, pray, pray for my boy.
I THINK GOD FOR THESE PAIN FREE DAYS THAT TYLER HAS HAD SINCE AUGUST. JUST PRAYING AND HOPING HE WILL STAY PAIN FREE.
one more thing…do you know that Tyler will probably not ever have kids and that he can not play foot ball or any sport for fear of his bones braking, or jump on a trampoline or wrestle with his brothers. There is just so much he won’t be able to do, but we thank God for all the things he can do, like eating right now, and that he is still with us. So we have so much to be greatful for.
We love you all so much and appreciate you.
THANK YOU ALL FOR ALL THE LOVE , PRAYERS AND SUPPORT FOR TYLER AND OUR FAMILY .
Tyler still loves his snail mail. It makes him smile
UPDATE: 3-14-10
Hi. Couldn’t sleep so I thought I would up date Tyler’s page. He’s one amazing little boy. Still doing really good; loves chicken wings from Walmart! Don’t know how he eats them with no teeth, but he does. Tyler has gone from just about not eating to eating chicken, spaghetti, chicken nuggets, pizza and bacon sandwiches. He likes broccoli, but uncle Jeremy made him eat a lunch meat sandwich. That didn’t go over to good, but he did eat it.
Tyler is still seeing the doctors here in Greenville. They are amazed with his progress. What a trooper. Tyler is still doing really well with schooling. The home bound teacher loves him and does such a good job. Thank God for being with us through thirty nine surgeries! Tyler still has more surgery and I hate having to call the doctors and set things up again, but it must be done. These operations are horrible. You sit there wondering if your baby will come back home with you.
I want to share something with you all.
Tyler told me that in his last surgery he thinks he left his body. He said he seen a light and was going toward it. He said he saw his mama and me crying and he was trying to talk to us to let us know he was OK, but said we couldn’t hear him. He said he floated all over the room and the light was getting brighter. He said he got almost at the light and looked back at his mom and decided that he would go back in his body. He was eight and I don’t think he made this up. I only told a few people about this till now, thinking they might think I was crazy, but this is what Tyler told me and he says he remembers this. It is hard to get him to talk about this.
Please, please keep Tyler and our family in your prayers. He has so much more to go through and it will be going on all Tyler’s life. I think we have Gods blessings.
Tyler’s one-year-old brother Eathan has bronchitis. He was seen at the ER last night. Jayden, the four-year-old brother, has croup and he was also seen at the ER. Nathan is going to be three in two weeks. He’s good and getting big.
Its suppose to snow here today. How I wish warm weather would get here!
We will be going to Gores car show Sat March 13th to help raise money for Courageous Kids. They have helped us so much. If you would like to meet Tyler and some of the kids, e-mail me for directions.
I cannot get use to living out here in the woods. I hate it, George loves it. He was raised here and won’t move back, so I am stuck: either stay or divorce. He’s too good and I love him too much to divorce. There is a double-wide across the woods from us and I think Ashly, Richie and the kids may be getting to move into it. That should help to have the boys around here. Tyler doesn’t care where he’s at, as long as his mom and nanny are with him.
God bless each of you. We love you!
UPDATE: 2-27-10
Hi Everyone,
Tyler is still pain free, but his jaw is pulling over to one side again. We will be seeing the doctor here in April for his opinion on this. Also getting him to Dr. Rodriguez to see what he says about Tyler’s next surgery in June or July.
Tyler did get to go to the circus, had a ball and loved every minute of it. He wants to go back. Thank you Steven for the tickets and also thanks to the Cancer Society and to Happy Days who offered tickets but we all ready had them. YOU ALL ARE ANGELS, WE APPRECIATE YOU SO MUCH!
Tyler did have some surgery on his teeth and had two taken out. That only leaves a couple, but he’s still eating and has no jaw pain, thank God. He is having some leg pain, but nothing like he was having. He’s still playing at being the little boy he should have gotten to be years ago. I still thank God each day for Dr. Rodriguez.
Thank you all for the cards, Tyler loves his mail, please remember to sign his guest book. We read all of it and it means so much to know you care. I am doing better and thank God each day that he gives me with my boys. Tese grandbabies are my life, my world.
EACH OF YOU HAVE BEEN A BLESSING IN OUR LIVES AND WE LOVE YOU!
DARLENE
UPDATE: 2-6-10
Hello,
Tyler’s still doing really well. He is playing and having a good time with his brother Jayden. He is still without pain in his jaw, but we will have to get in touch with Dr Rodriguez. Tyler’s face
is pulling to the side again. He is taking Tylenol for his legs, but they are not hurting like they were. It has been so good to be able to take him to the doctors here in Greenville. God has been with us. Tyler has a tooth coming in and he only has a couple teeth. This one is coming in on the side of his gums. They said all the roots were dead, so I don’t know why he’s getting this one. Its all swollen.
UPDATE: 1-17-10

us all the way.Tyler such a sweet little boy.he sure deserves a break.you should just see him .hes just like other little boys ,playing laughing with his brother.
UPDATE: 1-5-10
Dr. Rodriguez called today. We talked about Tyler’s jaw and agreed it would be best to just let him be a kid for a little while. We will wait another six months before doing the next jaw surgery instead of February.
As long as Tyler remains pain free and nothing goes wrong, we can leave him be for a little while. Dr. Rodriguez said that Tyler will have to have the surgery in Maryland to take some of the packing out from his jaw. We will have to talk to him in six months to make the arrangements and Tyler can follow up with his Greenville doctors until then.
Thank you for your prayers. God is good!

Well Tyler has had a bad week he was hurting . He was screaming ,so we had to take him to the Er here in greenville they did xrays ,and his hole in his belly is not closing up and all that acid running out of it is burning him .The Drs said that the place was going to have to be closed and put him on more pain meds. They told us to call musc. We did and they told they wanted to give it one more week to close and that if it didnt we would have to come and let them put him to sleep and close it. They said that it wouldnt take very long to do it.He is still haveing leg pain he cried all night last night with it hurting but the mortrin seems to be helping with some of the pain.We tryed to tape his belly and take him swimming ,but it hurt him to much.I went to church today the service was awsome.
